DESCRIPTION Amazon Web Services (AWS) has an immediate opening for an experienced Technical Program Manager to develop, own, organize and run release activities from development through rollout and into production for Data Center Global Services (DCGS). DCGS designs, engineers, and builds AWS data centers all over the world. Our data centers are industry-leading examples of creative and innovative power, cooling, and space utilization. You'll be leveraging your leadership and technical expertise to establish the necessary business processes, procedures, and best practices that appropriately and efficiently mitigate risk, drive transparency and accountability, and support the release management discipline within DCGS. You'll be responsible for developing and leading complex releases for everything from new power and cooling equipment to software to changes in our data center structural and architectural designs. This is not a task-based job - you will be responsible for successful outcomes and delivery, collaborating with many design and engineering teams across DCGS and AWS Infrastructure. You'll also participate in and lead discussions or presentations with all levels of our organization to help evangelize and drive adoption of a flexible and predictable release management process. Core Responsibilities: * Develop and maintain a release management for DCGS discipline based on experience, best practices, and proven methodologies, including documentation on the release process, roles and responsibilities, and policies and procedures * Organize and coordinate complex releases that involve multiple teams and multiple interrelated and independent infrastructure changes (software, hardware, heavy equipment) * Define and establish release pipelines and schedules * Ensure resource (people and technology) and change management requirements are met * Ensure risk mitigation practices are in place * Provide status updates to various levels of the organization * Serve as the key release representative in all communication, management, and decision-making forums * Serve as an escalation point for all issues and questions associated with DCGS releases * Resolve scheduling, resource conflicts, and assist other team members as necessary * Engage subject matter experts, relevant data, experience, and sound judgement to mitigate risks by adjusting releases or release management process requirements * Support and improve our tools for continuous integration, testing, and release management. Candidates must be metrics focused and comfortable making decisions that impact mission critical infrastructure in an operational context. An understanding of applicable standards (OSHA, SOX, SAS-70, PCIDSS, EPA), familiarity with ITIL, and a demonstrated ability to drive a forward-looking program are needed. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of project and program management experience * 2 years of experience with managing software development projects, release engineering, or release management * Experience in core project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management.
